Adelaar Review

Diving Squad Rating:

9.7/10

9.7 / 10

Adelaar has some of the most unique and varied itineraries of any luxury Komodo liveaboard, with manta cruises, whale shark trips and voyages beyond Komodo all being available.

This is also one of the only komodo liveaboards where there are more crew than guests, ensuring maximum service and attention to detail is always on hand.

Great for: Unique & Varied Trips, Small Groups, Long Trips, Luxury Cabins, Large Crew

Trip Lengths: 11 days

Max Group Size: 8

Operates: March – September. (Cruises other parts of Indonesia for rest of year).

Details:

There’s a variety of superb trips available with the huge and luxurious Adelaar:

  • Adelaar Signature:: This route explores not only the north, central and southern regions of Komodo but also many additional Indonesian dive sites between it and Bali including the volcanic islands Satonda, Sangang and Mota islands; some of which can also be trekked.

  • Komodo & Manta Special: Similar to the Adelaar signature but adjusted to spend more time around dive sites that are frequented by manta rays.

  • Komodo & Whale Shark Special: Similar to Adelaar signature but includes two scientific trips with a marine biologist and visits to well known whale shark sites.

  •  Komodo Exclusive: This route stays around Komodo National Park and doesn’t journey to or from Bali, unlike the previously described three. This way you get to explore more of Komodo national park, going from the north to central and southern regions as well as a visit to the nearby volcanic sangeang island.

Komodo Extended: Almost exactly the same as Komodo Extended, but the order of dive sites is in reverse – you start in the southern regions and journey up to the north.

As you can see, there are some truly unique options with Adelaar. Only Coralia; with it’s marine conservation trip or Duyung Baru with it’s macro photography option, can offer similarly unique itineraries.

All Adelaar trips include treks, a trip to komodo island to witness the komodo dragons, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, a naturalist guide and snorkelling.

In terms of amenities, the upper and lower decks provide plenty of comfortable seating areas with epic views.

There’s a very large sundeck which doubles up as the outdoor dining zone and also a spacious indoor lounge that has a library. Plus there’s a well stocked bar with local beer and imported liquor and wines!

The cabins – especially the master suite, are insanely spacious and all of them have an ensuite marble bathroom and private large plasm tv.

It would be nice if some cabins had private balconies like you get with Gaia Love and Coralia, but other than this the cabins of Adelaar are pretty much perfect.

A unique feature of this liveaboard is that there are more crew than guests, so you’ll never be short for service! The crew include a naturalist guide and also a talented chef who prepares a variety of gourmet Indonesian and western cuisine.

In terms of dive trips, you don’t get much more variety than those offered by Adelaar.

With 5 incredible options that explore just Komodo or other parts of Indonesia to, whilst also featuring various land excursions and the opportunity to focus on manta rays or whale sharks, one really is spoilt for choice!

Barring the fact it does not offer massage services, Adelaar is an extremely luxurious vessel, that offers the perfect kind of dive safari for any diver.

"Really, really good. The itinerary was wonderful and the crew adaptable enough that if one place didn't suit, they would make alternative plans. The diving was totally spectacular and tailored to our requirements and shore visits an option and very good. The crew were professional, couldn't do enough for us and were so nice (and with a good sense of humour!). The ship was fabulous and in immaculate condition (we were given an upgraded cabin which was very nice indeed, but the other cabins looked good too). Thoroughly recommended".

"Great trip but only if you can meet other guests with same level diving experience, otherwise they have to choose some dive site for low level then you will miss some best dive site".

“There is just one word to describe the trip with Adelaar – amazing! Let’s start with the most important one – the people. Each and everyone on the crew has been incredible – helpful, professional, detail-oriented, friendly and reading every wish from the guests’ lips! Thank you!

The rooms were cleaned after you returned from breakfast, the gear was always taken care of and in perfect shape, the briefings excellent and fun and the diving, well, you come out with a huge smile after each dive and it is just getting bigger with the next one!

Oh, being greeted with fresh juice when you come back on board after the dive or a wet towel after land excursion – yes please! The boat is in a very good shape, you see the value having engineers as per of the crew and the entertainment system in the rooms is state of the art!

The food has been not only delicious, but also beautifully presented. This all without being pretentious, we always felt being part of the family on Adelaar which made this journey unique! Thank you again guys for incredible time and best of luck to you”!
