Spirit of Freedom offers 3, 4 and 7 (+1 day travel) trips to the very best diving spots of the north and central Ribbon Reefs – the only other liveaboard that does this is Spoilsport. The longer a trip you book in for, the more of this region you get to explore, simple as!
At certain times of year, it’s also possible to embark on special trips such as the “Yongala Expedition”, which takes guests to Australia’s largest shipwreck; the SS Yongala as well as exploring the outer reaches of the coral sea.
There’s also MIinke Whale Safaris from June – July, where divers and snorkelers get to swim with dwarf minke whales.
Throughout all trips, there’s a spectacular variety of dives to be enjoyed, including drift, night and wreck dives over truly superb coral, with the company of many reef sharks, turtles and macro critters.
Generally, there’s 4 – 5 dives a day, which is incredible value for money! The only other liveaboards that offer this are Spoilsport and Ocean Quest. Guests also get to enjoy island visits, a BBQ party and snorkelling.
For relaxation between dives, there’s a sundeck with spectacular views, a partially shaded forward lounge and an indoor saloon with ac.
The dining hall has a large plasma tv and surrounding windows to enjoy the views as you tuck into healthy meals, which at dinner includes free wine and beer. Cheers!
All cabins are equipped with an ensuite bathroom, wardrobe, AC, storage and get daily housekeeping. The ocean view cabins and stateroom also feature TV monitors and apple TV movies. There’s also a qaud cabin with four single beds.
Personally, I feel Spirit of Freedom is one of the best liveaboards touring the Great Barrier Reef!

“The shark dive & Steve’s Bommie were my favourite dives but apart from the 1st one where the visibility was bad due to coral spawning, all of the dives were great. The crew were AMAZING!!! They could t have done more to help. At every point from the famous finderella service to helping me try to find important lost items. They were all friendly, good humoured, helpful, polite and respectful. Special mentions to James, both Scottys, all the girls and all the boys. Lol. They were all fab!!!”
