The two itineraries are:
- Komodo (Labuan Bajo – Labuan Bajo): The most regularly occurring trip; this route explores the stunning underwater landscapes of the north and the insane diversity of the central regions of Komodo; it also includes a trek to meet the Komodo Dragons face to face!
- Special Macro Photography Cruise in Rinca: Typically occurring around November, this is the ultimate experience for underwater photographers. You’ll explore the seldom visited southern region of Komodo, where the marine biodiversity is insane; especially with regards to macro critters. There will also be the chance to witness a small family of Komodo Dragons on South Rinca, from the safety of the boat.
To further sweeten the deal for underwater photographers, there’s a camera station with charging points as well as a separate rinse for underwater cameras on the dive deck.
There’s just 3 cabins, catering to a maximum of 6 guests – not only does this tiny group size make underwater photography more convenient, it also creates a relaxed and intimate atmosphere that will certainly appeal to couples or those seeking more privacy.
It’s extremely uncommon to find a liveaboard in any country that takes only 6 passengers, usually the lower limit is is 8!
Each cabin has an ensuite bathroom and there’s 2 double options and one twin. Unfortunately the cabins don’t have any sea views, but they’re still very nicely decorated.
However, the stunning komodo views can be easily enjoyed from the spacious sundeck or the partially shaded outdoor lounge, which has very comfortable furniture and leads into the indoor salon with ac and video & audio entertainment.
There’s also kayaks on board as well as free internet and a well stocked book shelf. It would be cool if there was paddleboarding and massages as well, as there are on Gaia Love, Tiare Cruise and Coralia; but then Duyung Baru is that cheaper than all these other options.
Because it’s recommended that divers come aboard with their advanced open water cert and 70 logged dives; Duyung Baru is mostly aimed towards experienced divers.
An experienced and friendly crew are on hand to attend to every one of your needs and in “Yannies Kitchen”, fresh food is prepared all day; consisting of Indonesian cuisine with western hints.
The main selling point of this liveaboard is the underwater photography trip and the tiny group size. If either of these qualities is of high importance to you, than you should seriously consider a dive safari with the Duyung Baru.
