Emperor Virgo Review

Diving Squad Rating:

9.5/10

9.5 / 10

Emperor Virgo is a classy, yet low cost yacht with onboard facilities that include two international bars.

There are 3 types of itinerary available, one for every level of diver – beginner, intermediate and advanced.

All trips explore the central Maldives regions and place a heavy emphasis on sharks and large pelagic fish.

Great for: Beginners, Small Groups, Unique Trips, Yoga

Trip Lengths: 8 days

Max Guest Capacity: 16

Operates: All year

Details:

In my opinion, the coolest trip with Emperor Virgo is “Pelagic Magic”, which features manta cleaning stations, looking for baby white tip sharks and diving around sites that are rich with eagle rays and other large pelagic fish.

This trip is beginner friendly as you only need your open water certification and no minimum logged dives.

A more challenging version of this is “Sharktastic”, which features adrenaline pumping channel dives, wreck dives and deep diving around at areas well known for high numbers of reef sharks.

You’ll also visit some dive sites where there’s a good chance of spotting whale sharks! This itinerary is designed specifically for experienced divers with open water certification and at least 30 logged dives.

The other trip is “Best of the Maldives” which is essentially a combination of the two previous mentioned trips – it’s also mostly beginner friendly. The best part of this one? Hammerhead dives!

For extra activities there are yoga classes as well as onboard kayaks and snorkelling equipment. There is also paid internet and a camera station.

There are not one but two international bars on this yacht, which serve a verity of fine wines, beer on tap, cocktails and spirits. This creates a laid back and social atmosphere aboard the Emperor Virgo and it’s a great place to meet new people.

The air conditioned lounge has plenty of comfortable furniture and beanbags for unwinding, plus a large flatscreen TV entertainment system and dining area.

Heading outside, the sundeck has plenty of sun loungers for soaking up rays and taking in the stunning Maldives views.

Cabins are equipped with ensuite shower rooms, dressing tables, TV & DVD players and ac. The two upper cabins also have large windows which provide beautiful ocean views and plenty of sunlight.

Also, for those who are certified free nitrox refills means you can enjoy more time underwater and less time surfacing.

Emperor Virgo, one of the cheapest mid-range Maldives liveabaords, runs the most frequent beginner-friendly dive safaris.

You don’t get to do as many extra activities e.g. beach bbq’s and spas, as with some other liveaboards, but from an affordability and diving perspective, this liveaboards trips are very good.

"Everything was top notch. I love the Maldives. We saw 6 species of sharks in one week and countless Mantas. Whale shark and hammerheads were to of my favorite along with the night dives with Mantas and Nurse Sharks. The diving guides are outstanding, thank you Andrea Reeko and Megan. Crew is great and the boat as well with great food the whole week."

"We were lucky enough to see 17 Eagle rays swimming in formation, lots of sharks, turtles and rays as well as beatiful corals and so much fish life. The night dive with the Mantas was thrilling - as was the twilight dive with the nurse sharks. We couldn't fault the crew and Dive Guides. The briefings were really good and health and safety was always a priority. It was our first liveaboard and we couldn't have asked for more. The accommodation was excellent and the fantastic cocktails an added bonus. Thanks to Thomas and all the crew for making the week so special!!"

“Great daily itinerary that was flexible and based on site conditions which allowed us to truly see the best of Maldives – from mantas to stingrays and lots of colourful marine life.

The liveaboard itself was extremely cosy and comfortable with delicious meals whipped up for us 3 times a day. The dive crew and guides were great, informative and really friendly.

We had a ton of fun with the other guests on board and it really felt like home for a week”.
