Kira Kira Review

Diving Squad Rating:

9.5/10

9.5 / 10

You’ll not find a cheap Komodo liveaboard that offers more extra activities and experiences than Kira Kira.

She also has some of the nicest cabins and is a good choice for beginners on a budget.

Great for: Extra Activities, Beginners, Luxury Cabin, Water-sports.

Trip Lengths: 8 days

Max Group Size: 8

Tours Komodo: June to September (Operates in Raja Ampat for rest of year)

Details:

Of all the cheap Komodo liveaboards, Kira Kira is the most beginner friendly option – that’s because on her trips, guests are only required to have their open water cert and 10 logged dives.

Other cheap komodo liveaboards require you to have your advanced open water cert and 30+ dives.

Of course, if you’re really serious about a beginner friendly komodo liveaboard trip, then you could consider the mid price options of Moana and Nataraja, where you can hire a private dive guide and go through your scuba courses, for an extra fee.

There’s only one type of route available: the 8 day “Komodo National Park” option, which explores the north and central regions of Komodo. A really cool part of this itinerary is that each day has a unique theme, based on the dive sites visited – such as “ultimate underwater formations” and “Manta Tales”.

In terms of extra activities, Kira Kira has more than any other cheap komodo liveaboard!

In between dives, guests can go kayaking, wakeboarding, make land excursions to deserted beaches and go on viewpoint treks, enjoy a traditional village visit and also visit the komodo national park ranger station to see the komodo dragons, whilst accompanied by a ranger.

Busy Girl is the only other option to offer wakeboarding, but she does not have kayaking or paddle boarding. No other liveaboard includes a village visit.

Kira Kira caters to a maximum of 8 guests in 4 private cabins to ensure a more personalised service. Three of the cabins are twins, whilst one is a rooftop double cabin that offers superb panoramic views. Only one other cheap komodo liveaboard has a cabin with ocean views and that is La Unua.

There are two shared bathrooms and each cabin has wardrobes and plenty of storage space. Guests can catch some rays on the sundeck or kick back on the open air lounge with epic views and an icy beer.

The food is a combination of freshly cooked Indonesian and Western meals – plus the catch of the day!

Kira Kira is one of my favourite cheap komodo liveaboards of all time. She offers the most all inclusive trip, allowing you to discover all that Komodo has to offer, not just underwater but on land as well.

"We had an absolutely amazing time on board the Kira Kira. Clare and Fandi really made the trip, always felt safe and enjoyed every minute. Best holiday we’ve ever had. Diving was great, saw a huge array of marine life. The boat itself fairly basic but had everything we wanted. I cannot thank you enough Clare and crew for a truly wonderful experience that we will never forget".

“I’ve joined Liveboard in Komodo National Park on the board of Kira Kira boat more than a week ago and still cannot stop smiling. 😆😆😆 Dives were an insane beauty and a good fun (currents).

Clare made each of them safe an unforgettable! Herself and Fandy are not only the great, experienced guides but one of those positive, crazy guys who make great atmosphere around them.

We were very lucky to meet fantastic Kira Kira crew who was welcoming and helpful, who made us feel like home, taking care of us and making our trip extremely pleasant.

One more thing I need to mention is the genius chef the cuisine who each day spoiled us with the variety of delicious Indonesian (and not only) cuisine. Perfect amount of dives per day allowed us not only to enjoy beauty of the underwater world but also to know each other, share diving/travelling experiences while admiring magnificence of the Komodo National Park with it’s sunrises, sunsets and sky full of stars.

One more time BIG THANK YOU to Clare, Fandi, Paul and lovely crew for this amazing time together. Hoping to dive with you again in the near future”!!!
